Enshrined 1995

State wrestling champ. Pro football star. Successful lawyer. Bestselling author. These are a just a few of Tim Green’s many personal accomplishments which is why he’s been called the Renaissance Man of Sports.

 

At Liverpool High School, Green, a first team all-state pick, was considered one of the finest football linemen in Onondaga League history. He also won a state heavyweight wrestling championship in 1981.

 

Green then starred for the Syracuse University football team in the early 1980s, helping the Orangemen rise to national prominence. At SU, Green was a consensus All-American and set three school records for most sacks in a career (45.5), in a season (15) and in a game (4). He finished with 341 career tackles. Green was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2002.

 

Green was a first round NFL draft pick by the Atlanta Falcons in 1986. He was a star defensive end for eight seasons. Between 1989 and 1991, Green led the Falcons with 37 QB pressures, six sacks, four forced fumbles and made 121 tackles (1990).

 

A multi-media star, Green is the bestselling author of 15 suspense novels and some of his widely-read books have been featured on 60 Minutes and in People Magazine. Green also spent eleven years as an NFL analyst for FOX Sports and hosted a nationally syndicated news magazine, “ A Current Affair”, as well as writing for USA Today.

 

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

 

1978-1981: Liverpool High School varsity football and four years varsity wrestling; Named High School All-American

 

1981-1985: Syracuse University Football. Member of "Four Wheel Drive" defense line. Helped SU defeat No. 1-ranked Nebraska

 

1985: Voted SU Most Valuable Player (Bill Horr Award); Team co-captain and was named co-player of the year in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC)

 

1986-1994: Drafted in the first round by the Atlanta Falcons; Played linebacker and defensive end; Led the Falcons in sacks 1989-1990; Topped 100 tackle mark

 

1994: Retired from the NFL

 

2002: Inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame

 

Other achievements: All-American Junior and Senior years in college; Rhodes Scholar and Lombardi Trophy candidate; First-team Academic All-American; Played in Cherry, Senior and Hula Bowls; Co-Valedictorian of his senior class at SU; Color commentator for FOX Network telecasts of the NFL Football, a columnist for USA Today , and a weekly commentator for National Public Radio. Member of the New York State Bar and a graduate of Syracuse University Law School; Author of several novels including “ Ruffians”, “Titans”, “The Fourth Perimeter" and “ Outlaws” as well as the bestseller “ The Dark Side of the Game”
