Known as "The Dean" of the Big East Conference sports information directors, Massachusetts native Larry Kimball would have preferred spending years in Dodger blue...Brooklyn Dodger blue. "Not having that, I have the second-best deal," Kimball said of his career as the Syracuse University SID.
 

Kimball’s career spanned 31 years starting in 1966 when he came to Syracuse from the University of Vermont's SID office. Kimball never missed an Orange football game, attending 383 football games in a row, which led the nation at the time of his retirement in 1997.
 

Kimball, a former newspaperman in Norwich and Utica, never lost perspective about his job on the SU Hill, which was: "The gathering and dissemination of information about intercollegiate athletics."
 

His peers recognized the high standards he set. A past president of the ECAC Sports Information Directors Association, Kimball received that organization's Service Bureau Award. He's also been honored by the All-American Football Foundation and U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association and he was a SU Varsity Club honorary Letter Winner of Distinction.
 

Kimball, a Miami of Ohio graduate, worked 42 straight IRA Regattas including more than 30 as co-director. He also served as a Pan American Games and National Sports Festival press steward. The longtime president of Blind Men and Criers was inducted into the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors) Hall of Fame.
