Founded in 1987, the Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame pays tribute to the men and women whose achievements in the world of sports have made Syracuse synonymous with athletic success, and have brought special honor to our community.
The Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit historical organization.
The 2019 Nominees were inducted into the GSSHOF Class of 2019 on October 28th to a sell out crowd at the The Oncenter presented by Cherundolo Law Firm. These outstanding individuals are: J.J. Grant, Football, track and field; Jason Grilli, Baseball; Dan Hunt, Wrestling; Pat Killorin, Football; Floyd Little, Football; Mike Naton, Golf; and Breanna Stewart, Basketball. The 2003-04 Marcellus girls soccer teams were named Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame’s 2019 Team of Honor at the GSSHOF 33rd Annual Dinner and Induction ceremony Oct. 28 at the Oncenter presented by Cherundalo Law Firm.
Coach Laurie Updike’s Mustangs were 46-2-2 overall the two seasons and 16-2-2 in league play. They outscored opponents 234-33 and posted 27 shutouts.
The 2003 team was led by two first-team all-state juniors, forward Jenna Farneti (state Class B Tournament MVP) and midfielder Jocie Jankowski. Updike was named state Class B Coach of the Year.
The 2004 team was a more senior-laden squad, led by a trio of first-team all-state seniors:, Farneti (the state player of the year) Jankowski and forward Amy Ware.
Six players from the two teams played collegiately: Candy Hofmann (Syracuse), Farneti (Duquesne), Jankowski (Nazareth/Le Moyne), Alyssa MacLachlan (St. John Fisher), Ware (SU) and Katie Zimmerman (Lynchburg).
