Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame Announces 2014 Team of Honor

8/12/14

The Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame in conjunction with Presenting Dinner Sponsor Tully’s Good Times announced the recipient of this year’s Team of Honor that will be recognized for its outstanding achievements at the 28th Annual Hall of Fame Dinner which will take place on Monday, October 20, 2014 at 7pm at Drumlins Country Club.

Jim Battaglia, Hall of Fame President, and Sam Bregande, Tully’s spokesperson, made the announcement that this year’s Team of Honor is actually all of the teams from the Liverpool High School Swim Team program that compiled an incredible 215 win – 5 loss record during the seventeen year span from 1966-1983 under the coaching of Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Famer Jim Funiciello.

Coach Funiciello was pleased with the Hall of Fame’s decision to honor the program and these fine teams.  “I am so pleased to see our swim program and its outstanding swimmers honored by the community,” said Funiciello.  Funiciello’s teams were New York State Champions nine times during this time span and put together streaks of 113 wins in a row plus 15 consecutive Section III titles.  Twenty-one of the Liverpool High School swimmers achieved All-American status, and the teams never lost a home meet.

A number of the swimmers were also on hand for the announcement.

Tully’s Good Times Owner, John Giamartino, said that “Tully’s Good Times is proud to be the Presenting Sponsor of the Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame Dinner and Induction Ceremony for the fourth consecutive year, and we are glad to be associated with an organization that recognizes both team and individual athletic achievement in our community.”
